Are you looking for help to cut your energy costs and at the same time, reduce your impact on the planet? The One-Stop-Shop will provide impartial, expert advice and support you in your journey to reduce your carbon emissions whilst also cutting your energy bills.

This is the start of a journey to providing long-term support in Bridgend to reach Net Zero with the aim to provide:

  • Free advice service on what energy saving technologies are available and tailored advice on what would work for you
  • Energy audits and assessments to measure current energy usage and identify opportunities for energy savings
  • Helping to identify financial incentives to help you 
minimise costs
  • Opportunity to visit Bridgend College’s ‘Home of ideas’ 
and see actual energy efficiency measures and 
technologies installed
  • Signposting to local suppliers and contractors

IS THERE ANY FINANCIAL HELP?

NEST is part of the Welsh Government Warm Homes Programme. It covers insulation measures, renewable technologies or new boilers.

  1. You need to own your own home or rent from a private landlord.
  2. Home is energy inefficient with high energy bills for heating.
  3. Someone in the home is on a means-tested benefit or has a chronic health condition or is on a low income.

Grant is available to upgrade your heating system to a heat pump or biomass heating system.

  1. You need to own the property you are applying for.
  2. Have installed your new heating system on or after 1 April 2022.
  3. Be replacing a fossil fuel heating system.
  4. The property must have a valid EPC. From May 2024, the property will still be eligible even if there are outstanding insulation recommendations on the EPC.
  1. Contact suitable MCS certified installers to get quotes for the work. Certified installers can be identified through the MCS website.
  2. Confirm your eligibility (your installer will be able to do this).
  3. Agree a quote with your chosen installer.
  4. The installer will apply for the grant from OFGEM, and the value of the grant will be taken off the quote provided by the installer.
  5. OFGEM will contact you to confirm that the installer is acting on your behalf.
Boiler Upgrade Scheme Up to £7,500 Until March 2025

Support low-income, the vulnerable to cold related illnesses and those who live in fuel poverty.

  1. Scheme requires domestic energy suppliers with over 1,000 customers to provide an annual discount to customer bills.
  2. Aimed at two core groups:
    • Group 1: Fuel poor pensioners
    • Group 2: Fuel poor customers
  3. Group 2 Qualification includes those who are on:
    • Income related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
    • Income based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
    • Income Support
    • Universal Credit
    • Housing Benefit
    • Child Tax Credits and Working Tax Credits
    • Pension Credit Savings Credit (PCSC)

Zero VAT on solar panels and heat pumps

A zero rate applies to the installation of certain specified energy-saving materials from 1 May 2023 to 31 March 2027.

A zero rate also applies to the groundworks necessary for the installation of ground and water source heat pumps in, or in the curtilage of, residential accommodation and charitable buildings.

The Scheme offers both interest free financing and fully funded expert support, helping you save money on energy bills and reduce carbon emissions.
